Leonardo Lozada, MD Joins Bon Secours Mercy Health as Chief Clinical Officer, Great Lakes Group

July 1, 2019 – Working in tandem with the executive search firm Summit Talent Group, Bon Secours Mercy Health has hired Leonardo Lozada to serve as Chief Clinical Officer for the Great Lakes Group.

One of the largest Catholic healthcare systems in the US, Bon Secours Mercy Health is comprised of three groups: the Atlantic Group, the Mid-America Group, and the Great Lakes Group. The $8 billion health system has 43 hospitals as well as over 1,000 care sites and more than 50 home health agencies, hospice facilities, and skilled nursing and assisted living facilities over seven states. The Great Lakes Group consists of 14 hospitals over four markets – Lima, Toledo, Lorain, and Youngstown.

In his new role, Lozado will have responsibility over setting group and market clinical strategy, supporting the goals set forth by the system CCO. He will also lead the group in the continuation of achieving high clinical quality to meet service excellence standards and maintain strong partnerships among the group’s physicians.

Lozada comes to Bon Secours Mercy Health from the Detroit Medical Center, which is affiliated with both Wayne State University and Michigan State University. There, he served as Chief Medical Officer for their Adult Central Campus, having executive clinical leadership over three hospitals, the medical group, and 26 service lines. Prior to his work in Detroit, Lozada spent five years at Saint Luke’s Health System in Kansas City, MO, where he held the roles of Senior Vice President and Chief Physician Executive and Interim Chief Executive Officer of Saint Luke’s Physician Specialists. Lozada has also held executive positions at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH and Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, ME.

In 2007, Lozada received his MBA from Duke University in Durham, NC. His MD was awarded at the Central University of Venezuela, and he is the recipient of neuroanesthesiology fellowships from both The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and the Mayo Clinic. Additionally, Lozada is a founding member of the Physician Leadership Development Group out of Kansas City, MO. The group aims to educate and inspire the traits necessary for physician leaders to transform their organizations into top quality performers. To achieve these aims, the group focuses on developing physicians’ strategic thinking, goal deployment, and organizational stewardship.
