Summit Talent Group Initiates Medical Director Searches

Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and CHOC Health Alliance (CHA) have retained Summit Talent Group to conduct a national search for two newly created physician leaders roles: Medical Director, Utilization Management (UM) and Medical Director, Quality & Case Management (QI). Both roles will report to the Medical Director of CHA; and will be instrumental in advancing CHOC’s mission to nurture, advance, and protect the health and well-being of children. CHOC Children’s is transforming its care delivery model through provider integration and patient/family engagement throughout Southern California and is continuing to actively grow, attracting additional members and providers into the CHOC Integrated Delivery System.

CHOC Children’s strives to become the region’s healthcare innovator through formalized relationships with community hospitals, healthcare providers, and the application of population health technologies; these physician leaders will be key members of the team ensuring accountability for quality and safety throughout the enterprise.

Medical Director – Utilization (MD/DO UM): The MD/DO UM will provide primary medical administrative leadership to the CHOC inpatient & CHA ambulatory UM teams, supervising staff and ensuring quality patient care through the application of evidence-based care guidelines and appropriate resource management. The incumbent will be responsible for program development and implementation and also serve as a mentor & resource to CHOC inpatient service teams, CHA network providers, and CHA & CHOC UM staff in the areas of: utilization management, practice patterns and patient/provider satisfaction.

Medical Director – Quality & Case Management (MD/DO QI): The MD/DO QI will provide primary medical administration leadership to the CHA Quality & Case Management Team; supervising staff and ensuring the high reliability in the quality of patient care and case management. The incumbent will have program development and implementation responsibility while also serving as a mentor & resources to the RN case management team. The MD/DO QI and will provide direction and oversight for the California Children’s Services Care Management Program, the CHA quality staff, the CHA network providers and the CHA & CHOC’s CM staff in the areas of care management, patient & provider satisfaction, and the integration of clinical quality programs into practice.

The ideal candidate will have earned: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree; successful completion of a three-year pediatric residency in an accredited ACGME program; and five or more years of clinical practice in general pediatrics or pediatric hospitalist medicine. The incumbent is required to be Board Certified (American Board of Pediatrics) and have an active California medical license. A candidate with one or more years of clinical administrative experience, coupled with an advanced degree or certification (MMM, MBA or competition of ACPE, AAPL) or other recognized physician leadership training is highly valued.
