Summit Talent Group Initiates Chief Nursing Officer Search
University Hospitals (UH) has retained Summit Talent Group to conduct a national search for the position of Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) – UH Elyria Medical Center. Reporting to the President of UH Elyria Medical Center and working in a matrix with the UH system Chief Nursing Officer, the CNO – UH Elyria Medical Center will be responsible for 11 direct reports and approximately 400 FTEs.

UH Elyria Medical Center is a licensed 387 bed hospital, serving the suburban Cleveland community for over 100 years. UH Elyria Medical Center offers 18 full-service specialties and sub-specialties, including: adult and pediatric emergency services, cardiology, birth center, mental health, general surgery and orthopedics. The CNO daily manages all nursing care (inpatient & freestanding EDs) and partners with the hospital COO regarding perioperative services.
The CNO will be joining UH Elyria during a period of strategic planned growth and focused improvements in both the physical facility and expansion of services into the community.
Critical to success in this role is championing excellence in clinical, patient, and family centered care, elevating professional practice standards of care, and implementing evidenced-based best practices. Highly valued is a refined skill set that emphasizes integrity, efficiency, and accountability with physician partners.
The CNO will be a focal point for enhancing hospital relationships with the community, including building affiliations with local schools to attract nursing talent. The incumbent will have a keen understanding of budgets & productivity models, working in a shared governance model that emphasizes high reliability and system level tools for standardization & process improvements.
The ideal candidate will have earned an MSN, MBA, or MHA and have a minimum five years of progressive responsibility in nursing leadership in an acute care setting, preferably part of a large health system. The incumbent will have a track record of maintaining professional affiliations, enhancing knowledge & development, and promoting a diverse workforce by creating an environment of dignity, respect, and fair treatment.
