CHOC Health Alliance Pleased to Welcome Dr. Anne Carpinelli as Medical Director, Quality and Care Management

May 6, 2019 – Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) Health Alliance (CHA), in partnership with Summit Talent Group, has completed a search for the newly created position—Medical Director, Quality and Care Management. Pediatrician Dr. Anne Carpinelli has been chosen to assume the role.

A longtime advocate for children with special healthcare needs, particularly for those whose families have limited resources, Dr. Carpinelli joins CHA from Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care, a Federally Qualified Health Center in Washington, DC where she performed both clinical and administrative duties as Medical Director for their Georgia Ave location. Acting as a liaison between the senior management and medical staff, Carpinelli served as a strong leader, embracing opportunities for enhancing care quality, clinical efficiency, and provider wellness.

Dr. Carpinelli earned her master’s degree in public health in 2004 and her medical degree in 2008 from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She completed her pediatrics residency through the Boston Combined Residency in Pediatrics in 2011. The residency program was designed to serve as a national model for pediatric training and comprehensive care for children and is a collaboration among Boston Medical Center, Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Boston University. Dr. Carpinelli’s residency track focused on urban health and advocacy. During this time, inspired by the families she served and the mentors she admired, Dr. Carpinelli decided to integrate her knowledge of public health and pediatric medicine to focus on high-quality care coordination in the context of the family-centered medical home.

As Medical Director of Quality and Care Management at CHA, Dr. Carpinelli will continue to advocate for vulnerable populations, as she directs a care coordination program for children with special healthcare needs. With the upcoming transition to California’s “Whole Child Model,” CHA’s care coordination program will grow exponentially, and her knowledge of care design and commitment to addressing the psychosocial determinants of health will be essential for continued success.

Carpinelli will serve as a mentor to the RN Case Management team and provide direction and insight to the CHA care coordination staff. “I am honored to work with such dedicated, kind, and innovative colleagues,” Dr. Carpinelli stated. “The CHA team truly collaborates to meet the common goal of improving the lives of the children we serve, as well as their families.”

Through her leadership, CHA will continue to empower families to be their children’s best advocates in navigating the healthcare system and in living healthier lives.
