Children’s Hospital of Orange County Hires Jennie Sierra as Director, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

June 24, 2019 – After teaming with Summit Talent Group in a nationwide search for a Director, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) has selected Jennie Sierra from a pool of talented candidates.

In her new position as CHOC’s NICU director, Sierra will be responsible for maintaining the highest standard of nursing professional practice over the NICU, which is comprised of 70 beds over three locations. She will advocate for new technologies and ideas that will help CHOC’s 250-strong NICU team to embrace the hospital’s mission to nurture, advance, and protect the health of children. When asked about her new role, Sierra responded: “I”m really excited for this wonderful opportunity, and I’m looking forward to being part of the CHOC family!”

CHOC has a level IV NICU, meaning that they treat the most complex cases. Level IV NICUs are staffed with highly trained specialists who are able to provide surgical care in the event that a child has complex congenital or acquired conditions. As the Director, Sierra will be interacting with these highly skilled doctors and nurses regularly, ensuring that the vulnerable patient population receives their care and expertise.

Accepting the position at CHOC means that Sierra will be leaving her current role as Director, Women’s Care Services for University of Chicago Medicine (UChicago Medicine), the organization where she began her nursing career in 2005. During her tenure at UChicago Medicine, Sierra held positions as a staff nurse and Patient Care Manager before accepting the position of Director, Women’s Care Services in 2015. During her time as the director over women’s care, Sierra also spent three months as the Interim Director, NICU.

A graduate of Loyola University Chicago’s nursing program in 2004, Sierra has since attended Lewis University where she earned a dual MSN/MBA in 2015. She is a member of numerous organizations, has completed an AONE nursing director fellowship, and has volunteered on a mission to bring cardiovascular care to children in the Dominican Republic.
