Chief Executive Officer – Maryland Primary Care Physicians Retained Search

Maryland Primary Care Physicians (MPCP) has retained Summit Talent Group to conduct a national search for the position of Chief Executive Officer. Headquartered in Hanover Maryland, this position reports to the Board of Directors of Maryland Primary Care Physicians (MPCP) and Physician Management Group (PMG).

Working in partnership with Board of Directors and the leadership team, this position is responsible for the medical group practice that spans 10 individual medical practices in four counties, including Anne Arundel, Howard, Prince George’s and Queen Anne’s.  They also have a centralized laboratory. The practice includes over 90 board certified providers, including physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners in the fields of endocrinology, family practice, internal medicine, geriatrics, and cardiology. Their efforts are supported by an additional 333 clinical and business staff members, bringing the total staff to over 425 employees.

The CEO will lead in expanding the footprint at their 10 locations to accommodate more patients and moving MPCP from simple primary care into an expanded multispecialty care provider, including more focus in cardiology, endocrinology, genetics, and behavioral health.

Education & Experience:

• Must have a Master’s degree in business or a related field of study.
• 7+ years of successful executive-level experience leading a primary care or multi-specialty group practice or related medical group practice.
• Possess in-depth knowledge and skills in the areas of physician practice management, financial and revenue cycle management, managed care negotiations and contracting, marketing, billing and information systems, human resources, governance, population health, value-based care, and managing complex enterprises.
• Needs to have demonstrated that he/she is capable of building an operational infrastructure that can support current business and projected growth for an organization with similar dynamics.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership in the conception, planning, and development of strategies and objectives for consideration and adoption by the Board of Directors. Works closely with the physicians, members of the leadership team, committee chairpersons, associates, and advisors in the formulation of specific recommendations.
• Establish a business climate that will ensure the success of the organization’s business and is gladly embraced by each member of the organization. This will require “straight talk,” collaboration, and integration of original thoughts and perspectives.
• Recruit, select, and appoint members of the management team to direct the affairs of the organization. Direct their activities and evaluate their performance. Establish formal means of accountability for those to whom he/she has assigned duties. Provide appropriate staff support for the development of short and long-term strategic plans.
• Assure that all employees are given an orientation to the mission of the organization and instilled with a passion for MPCP’s Mission, Vision, and Values. Ensure that all employees are adequately trained for their position, are provided with an opportunity for continuing education and advancement and are instilled with an attitude that promotes cordial relationships with patients, physicians, and staff.
• Direct the business and financial affairs of the organization by employing a system of accountability to ensure responsible fiscal management including accounting, budgeting, internal controls, and timely reporting.
• Represent the organization in its relationships with community businesses and civic associations, government agencies, and professional organizations.
• Report regularly to the Board of Directors and Partners on the operation of the organization and the performance of its various departments.
• Ensure that all activities of the organization comply with all federal and state statutes. Keeps abreast of pending legislation.
