Financial leaders hold the health of the hospital or healthcare organization in their hands. This makes placing the right healthcare financial leader of the utmost importance. Because of the many challenges faced by financial leaders in healthcare, it was important to our executive search team that the person who would ultimately hold this position not only have the experience and credentials for the job, but also the right mindset and fortitude to achieve the financial goals of Valley Health System.

When considering qualifications, we honed in on candidates with extensive experience in hospital and health system patient accounting and revenue cycles so that he or she would be able to identify and implement innovative ways to enhance and optimize patient financial services.

In order to succeed in this newly created role, the candidate needed to have the ability to perform the responsibilities of the former Valley Health Central Business Office director position while engaging in direct oversight of all revenue cycle activities, including patient access (scheduling), billing, collections, cash posting, managed care contracting and EpicCare activities related to the revenue cycle.

The position also required strong communication skills to make collaboration with other Valley Health Leaders in optimizing Valley Health’s supply chain strategies and enhance services to patients and physician practices.  The ultimate goal of this role is to improve our overall patient satisfaction by optimizing technology and creating opportunities for service excellence across all departments

The Vice President Patient Financial Services executive search was led by Joann Sherrer, Vice President at Summit Talent Group. Joann has extensive experience with over 25 years in human resources, research and executive search experience. Part of her role at our executive search firm is to manage the full-cycle candidate interview process. As a part of this process, she develops extensive questions for both interviewers and their references. This skill is invaluable in identifying the right talent for our clients. Joann spearheads debriefing sessions with hiring executives and interview teams following each round of interviews. To codify the feedback after each candidate interview, Joann uses the Candidate Assessment Form as well as The McQuaig System ™, providing relevant data to assist hiring managers in identifying the best candidate fit.
