UPMC Altoona Selects Rebecca Mease as New Unit Director Emergency Department

Summit Talent Group is pleased to announce the selection of Rebecca “Becky” Mease as the new Unit Director for the Emergency Department at UPMC Altoona. Reporting to the Clinical Director of Emergency Services, Becky will oversee the 51-bed Trauma Center and primary stroke center, which serves between 120-150 patients daily. The department includes approximately 50 registered nurses and 40 support staff, providing critical care to the central Pennsylvania community.

Becky joins UPMC Altoona from Penn Highlands Healthcare, where she served as the Emergency Department Director for both Tyrone and Huntingdon Hospitals. In this role, she managed a daily census of 80-90 patients and led a team of 50 full-time employees. During her tenure, Becky spearheaded throughput initiatives that significantly reduced patient waiting times and increased overall patient satisfaction. She was named 2023 Director of the Year for her exemplary leadership.

With over a decade of experience in emergency care, including as a Flight Nurse with STAT MedEvac, Becky brings extensive expertise in critical care transport, clinical operations, and process improvement. Her leadership in emergency services has been recognized for improving patient care, fostering collaboration among staff, and achieving significant operational efficiencies.

UPMC Altoona, licensed for 390 beds, is renowned for serving over one million people across 20 counties. Becky’s leadership and passion for excellence will further enhance the quality of care and patient experience in the emergency department.
