University Hospitals Welcomes Alan Papa as President of UH Ahuja Medical Center

December 11, 2019 – After an extensive, nationwide search conducted by Summit Talent Group, University Hospitals in Cleveland, OH has named Alan Papa as President of UH Ahuja Medical Center (AMC).

Part of the 18-hospital University Hospitals Health System, UH AMC is a 144-bed community hospital in Beachwood, OH. Opened in 2011, the facility offers services to residents of Cuyahoga, Lake, and Summit counties. UH AMC has a medical staff of 819 physicians highly trained in 21 full-service specialties and subspecialties.

As President of UH AMC, Papa will partner with the Board of Directors, employees, and the community to promote the mission and vision of UH and “The Ahuja Way” of patient-centered care.

Papa will begin his tenure at UH AMC while the facility is undergoing a $200m expansion from medical center to full-service campus. This expansion is a response to community demands and will nearly double operating room capacity while increasing the emergency department by around 35%. Additionally, the expansion will feature programs in women’s services, men’s health, and the Harrington Heart and Vascular Center.

In the President role, Papa will be responsible for the operations, strategy, and management of the medical center in addition to ensuring financial health, clinical outcomes, and team engagement.

Papa is well prepared to assume his new role, having spent the last nine years at Cleveland Clinic Akron General in Akron, OH where he served as both President and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to his time at Akron General, Papa was President and Chief Operating Officer of Mount Carmel West Hospital in Columbus, OH.

Papa earned a BS in Business Administration from Youngstown State University and an MBA from Cleveland State University in Columbus, OH. Additionally, Papa is the Chair of the Red Cross of Summit, Portage, and Medina Counties Board of Directors.
