University of Colorado Health Hires William David Tharp, MBA, BSN as Senior Director, Emergency Services

July 15, 2019 – University of Colorado Health (UCHealth), in partnership with retained executive search firm Summit Talent Group, has hired David Tharp as Senior Director, Emergency Services for their Colorado Springs region.

The Colorado Springs region consists of Memorial Hospital North, Memorial Hospital Central, four free-standing emergency sites, and one urgent care center. Memorial Hospital Central boasts the only Level I Trauma Center in Southern Colorado.

In his new role, Tharp will provide clinical leadership and strategic oversight for the region. He will lead a team of six managers and eight associate managers and work collaboratively with the ED Medical Director and other physician leaders.

Tharp comes to UCHealth from WellStar Health System, the largest health system in the state of Georgia. At WellStar, Tharp served as Executive Director, Critical Care and Emergency Services over Atlanta Medical Center and Atlanta Medical South and was a member of the Emergency Services Leadership Committee. Prior to joining WellStar, Tharp spent five years at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA as Emergency Department Administrative Director.

Initially introduced to nursing through his military work, Tharp began his career as an ICU nurse in the Army Reserves. He attained both his ASN and his BSN from Columbus State University in Columbus, GA and then went on to earn his MBA from Western Governors University. Tharp has earned numerous certifications and awards throughout his career and is an active member of the Emergency Nurses Association, AONE, and the Georgia Organization of Nurse Leaders.
