Summit Talent Group Initiates Search for Director, Cancer Institute

Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) has retained Summit Talent Group to conduct a national search for the position of Director Hyundai Cancer Institute. CHOC Children’s Hyundai Cancer Institute is ranked #19 among the Nation’s Best Children’s Hospitals in Oncology by U.S. News & World Report 2019, is Magnet designated, and its NICU is licensed to provide Level IV care.

The new wing at the Hyundai Cancer Institute at CHOC Children’s, opened in 2016, provides a customizable healing experience tailored for adolescent and young adult (AYA) patients, featuring a lounge area and four specially outfitted rooms dedicated to this unique patient population.

The position reports to the Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer of CHOC, partnering closely with the Director Clinical Services of the Institute, driving a shared vision of innovation and positive sustainable outcomes for integration of all Oncology services. Further, the incumbent collaborates with the Medical Director, the Institute Leadership Team and medical staff to ensure a long-term position of strength and prominence in the region’s healthcare marketplace.

Foundational elements of the role include increasing volumes, managing physical space planning, devising capital budgets, expanding the referral network, and conducting physician recruitment & workforce planning. Further, the Director will have an aptitude for strategic planning, market research, community engagement and business development; the ability to recognize opportunistic growth options to grow market share and meet high standards of patient care in support of the Mission and Values of CHOC.

The incumbent will have strong demonstrated skills in assessment, strategic thinking and consensus-building paired with an ability to define overall goals, provide relevant analytical information, and facilitate program implementation. The Director will also possess exceptional physician relations skills to establish credibility with the medical staff.

The ideal candidate will have earned a master’s degree in Business, Marketing, or Healthcare, with a minimum of seven years’ experience in management for a large, managed care oriented, complex healthcare organization with a focus on children’s health and oncology.
