Reporting to the Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer of CHOC Children’s Hospital, the Director partners with a management team and staff to provide high-quality patient care, safety, compliance and service excellence to patients & families, with over 7,500 inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures per year.

The incumbent will be responsible for a total operating budget of $42M with oversight of nine operating suites, including three GI procedure rooms. Additionally, the incumbent has oversight of seven direct and 174 full-time employees with 24-hour accountability in the areas of surgical services: perioperative, sterile processing, procedure center (including anesthesiology technicians), PACU/Pre-Op (including radiology/nursing), surgical services scheduling/access, and Cath Lab.

The Director partners with the Medical Director of Operating Room and is responsible for the oversight and direction in establishing and maintaining a system for developing, reviewing, approving and disseminating standards and procedures of clinical practice, quality, education and clinical operations for surgical services.

Critical to this role is the knowledge of family-centered care concepts, safe care practices, and quality improvement methodologies, with demonstrated business acumen in the areas of budget, productivity systems, and OR efficiency.

Drawing on strong clinical knowledge of complex surgical services, the Director plans, participates and/or directs all aspects of patient care, strategic planning, operational & financial processes, and performance & outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have earned a BS in Nursing (BSN), a MS in Nursing (MSN), and ten years surgical services leadership experience. RN Licensure in the state of California at time of hire is required and a CNOR certification is highly valued.
