Seidman Cancer Center Selects Melissa Hunt as Vice President/Associate Chief Nursing Officer

December 2, 2019 – After partnering with Summit Talent Group on an extensive, nationwide executive search, University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center is pleased to announce the selection of Melissa Hunt as Vice President/Associate Chief Nursing Officer.

University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center is a 130-bed, NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center located on the main campus of University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. The cancer center is one of only 13 NCI-designated standalone cancer centers in the US.

In her new role, Hunt will report directly to the President and Scientific Director of Seidman Cancer Canter, Theodoros Teknos, MD. Hunt will be responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of all nursing services for the cancer center, which includes inpatient, ambulatory, and infusion services along with twelve cancer sub-service lines. Hunt will oversee the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of models, processes, and standards across the oncology care continuum at University Hospitals. Together with Dr. Teknos, Hunt will set strategies designed to meet the nursing standards of the cancer center, which provides state-of-the-art clinical care and community leadership with compassion, dignity, and respect.

Hunt comes to Seidman Cancer Center from Virginia Commonwealth University Health’s (VCU Health) Massey Cancer Center, where she most recently served as Nursing Director. Prior to her position as Nursing Director, Hunt served as Department Director and Clinical Administrator as well as Nurse Educator and Professional Practice Coordinator. Hunt began her career as a Clinical Nurse in oncology at VCU Health after completing a year-long oncology and intensive care nursing internship.

“ Seidman Cancer Center is a known leader in quality clinical care and research, but it was when I got the opportunity to spend time with their leaders that I found a level of compassion and dedication to their patients that made me sure that this was a team I wanted to join,” said Hunt.

“When Summit Talent Group contacted me about the opportunity to join the Seidman team, I initially wondered if it could actually be as incredible as she described. From the very first time I spoke with Dr. Teknos, I realized that Seidman was everything that I was looking for and more. I am thrilled to be joining this incredible team of leaders who share a vision of exceptional patient care and ground-breaking research.”

Hunt holds both a Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is a Nurse Executive Advanced—Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
