Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSM Health) has retained Summit Talent Group to conduct a national search for the new position of Chief Clinical Officer – Great Lakes Group, with the requirement to live within the footprint of this geography. This position will report to the BSM Health Chief Clinical Officer, Wael Haidar, MD and have a day-to-day working relationship with the President – Great Lakes Group, Don Kline.
Mercy Health (Cincinnati, OH) and Bon Secours Health System (Marriottsville, MD) finalized their merger on September 5, 2018 establishing Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMHealth), one of the largest Catholic healthcare systems in the nation: $8b in net operating revenue, $239m in operating income, 43 hospitals in seven states, 57,000+ employees, and 2,100+ employed physicians.
The Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) will be the responsible executive for overseeing clinical operations at the Group level. Functional responsibility for operationalizing and implementing system clinical strategies. The incumbent will be expert at navigating and building relationships, with an appreciation for the system management matrices. Stylistically, the incumbent will adept at influencing as an individual contributor, innovative and mindful of the fluidity & needs of the individual markets. Further, the CCO will be a resource for business acumen in the areas of: capital allocation, P&L management, market performance analysis; with a focus on Growth — new service lines, acquisitions, physician networks, quality & safety.
Specific to the Great Lakes Group, the CCO will bring to the role experience in the areas of: population health; transformation of care to meet population demands (Medicare & aging population); graduate medical education & residency programs.
The CCO will be an advocate for the BSM Health Strategic Pillars: improve community health & wellbeing; deliver clinical & operational excellence; strengthen culture & capabilities; and innovate & grow. In support of the Strategic Pillars, the CCO will: develop and deliver a convenient, affordable, reliable, experience, (care) model across the ministry; deploy evidenced-based and practices to reduce care variability; reduce non-patient care service expense as percentage of net patient revenue; achieve labor and supply expense targets; realize high value integration opportunities; develop a comprehensive digital customer engagement and activation strategy; increase primary care, ambulatory, retail, and virtual footprint; compete through differentiated service lines; and build capabilities to success in population health & risk contracting environment.
The ideal candidate will have a Medical Degree (or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine), with a Masters Degree highly preferred. Leadership experience of at least 10 years across a healthcare continuum, at least three years at a system acute care role in a complex and/or geographically dispersed health system. Additional expertise in finance and growth strategies are highly valued.
