Summit Talent Group Initiates Executive Search for Director of Ambulatory Services

Summit Talent Group has been retained to conduct a Director Ambulatory Services (DAS) search for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), for the third year in a row ranked as the #1 health system in the state of South Carolina. Serving the citizens of Charleston, South Carolina since 1824, MUSC is one of the nation’s top academic health science centers with a 700-bed medical center and six health science colleges.

Director Ambulatory Services Search

Reporting to the MUSC Administrator of Ambulatory Services, the DAS is an integral part of the practice plan, collaborating with the Integrated Centers of Clinical Excellence (ICCE), nursing, call center and business analytics departments to bring all ambulatory services into one service line model. This position is operations-focused (efficiencies, cost savings, patient experience), continually working to standardize and improve patient safety, access, quality and timeliness of care.

The DAS has operational oversight of three multi-specialty ambulatory centers (East Cooper, North Charleston, and West Ashley) encompassing 145,000 sq. ft.; 286,000 annual patient encounters; ten direct reports; and 186 total FTEs. Further, the DAS will continue the growth trajectory of community service offerings and be closely aligned with approved capital expenditures for new and expanded ambulatory services in the region.

Among the care services provided in the three facilities managed by the DAS are primary care, OBGYN, comprehensive women’s breast care, urology, cardiology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, dermatology, MOHS surgery, radiology, surgical services, rheumatology, endocrinology, pain management, and infusion therapy.

The incumbent participates in strategic planning initiatives and implementation programs that embrace patient-centered service and service excellence. This role is a thought leader in ambulatory quality and safety, coordination of care across the continuum, use of technological tools and solutions, metrics reporting, data to drive performance improvement, and customer service.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a health care management or business administration with a Master’s degree preferred; five years of management experience in an ambulatory care leadership role; demonstrated ability to work effectively with physician leaders; talent in the selection and mentoring of high-quality, effective teams; and proven ability to lead change.
