Children’s Hospital of Orange County Appoints Gwinette Cowan as Director, Specialty Care Services

January 6, 2020 – After partnering with Summit Talent Group in an extensive, nationwide search, the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) in Orange, CA has appointed Gwinette Cowan to the position of Director, Specialty Care Services.

In her new role, Cowan will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to over 300 employees of CHOC’s specialty clinics. She will build relationships with the system’s physicians and promote a culture of engagement and collaboration. Cowan will participate in the design and implementation of CHOC’s ambulatory strategic plan, vision, and mission.

Additionally, Cowan will collaborate with clinical leaders at CHOC, ensuring the system’s commitment to quality of care and patient safety.

Cowan comes to CHOC from The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Health where she most recently held the role of Executive Director of Primary Care. While at UCSF Health, Cowan developed two new buildings for clinical sights.

Prior to her work at UCSF, Cowan spent over a decade as Clinical Director of Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF). At PAMF, Cowan was responsible for designing the San Carlos Multi-Specialty Clinic, complete with four ORs and one urgent care facility.

Cowan earned an MSN in Executive Leadership from Benedictine University and a BSN from the University of Phoenix. She is a member of numerous affiliations including the American Association of Critical Care Nursing, the Society for Pediatric Nursing, and the American Organization of Nurse Executives. She was a recipient of the United States Congressional National Award “Moving our Youth on Up” in 2007.
