Bon Secours Health System is a $3.3 billion not-for-profit Catholic health system sponsored by Bon Secours Ministries.  Headquartered in Marriottsville, Maryland, the system owns, manages, or joint ventures 19 acute-care hospitals, one psychiatric hospital, five nursing care facilities, four assisted living facilities, and 14 home care and hospice services. St. Francis Medical Center is a 130-bed hospital that also includes a childcare building that can accommodate 120 children, a family practice center and the Bon Secours Cancer Institute.

About the Bon Secours CEO Search

The talent to be selected as the new CEO of Bon Secours would be responsible for improving patient care while lowering costs. This required candidates who would be able to shift the focus from the number of services performed to patient health outcomes and the quality of care provided. It would also be necessary to collaborate with other departmental leaders to put into place value-based purchasing, payment models, and bundled payments.

This leader would also need to analyze the status quo to find opportunities to innovate or standardize services where appropriate in order to improve patient care and satisfaction. They would also need to evaluate the workings of the organization as a full-time capacity in order to scale and pull back on services where needed. The new CEO would streamline processes to improve care and finances in broad strokes.

Since the emphasis would be on patient care and satisfaction, the candidates for CEO were required to showcase studies illustrating programs that were put in place to address population health, disease management, and preventative care to the community’s patient populations.

All of the above goals require someone who is politically skilled and is able to engage both internal leaders and team members such as physicians, outside influencers including but not limited to governmental figures, and patient advocates to drive improvement across the entire patient experience.
